We’ve paid a lot of attention to detail here.  Acoustics are the foundation of everything we hear.  This space is IDEAL for ALL acoustic instruments and, while we tout ourselves as wonderful sounding acoustic space, don’t think that means we only record acoustic instruments!

Sure, you plug in that guitar and call it electric.  It is!  Mostly...  But what happens after the sound leaves the speaker is controlled by the acoustics of the space you’re playing in.  Since you don’t plug your guitar directly into the head of the person who’s listening, you need to consider what the acoustics, between your speaker and their ear, are doing.  We’ve done that for you!  Subtle variations can create natural effects and eliminate a lot of the post-processing other studios NEED to do, AND charge YOU for!

This is NOT a dead recording space!  We've even made bagpipes sound good!

We've designed an intimate space without separate rooms.  Why split up your band when recording?  Many studios isolate each member and destroy the interaction that makes your group what it is!  Why?  Because they don't know how to deal with "bleed."  At Clear Gravy we LOVE bleed and we know what to do with it!  We account for phase up front so it isn't an issue later.  We help you groove by making your session as comfortable as possible and make you sound as good as you can sound.  (Remember, we're not miracle workers!)

That doesn't mean we can't isolate you, just that we prefer not to.  Attention to detail, rather then "shortcutting," means that we can handle your project in the best way for YOU, and make that the best way for us.  There is no "standard" setup at Clear Gravy.  Each client is an individual, so each of our setups are individual as well.  It's about getting the best sound for YOU and your style, not just a cookie cutter approach.

What makes a recording studio good?

50% of your recording depends on the studio.  (You supply the other half of the equation when it comes to good sound!)  While it's much easier to record in a dead room and add an artificial "natural" sound to the recording later, the studio should create a signature sound that sets it apart from other spaces.  Clear Gravy was designed to do just that!

For the studio's part, 50-60% of our sound is created by our room.  Being a live space, sound is encouraged to develop in a natural manner.  This provides a warmth and familar feel that can make a good recording sound even better.

Our passion is getting a solid, honest, representation of YOUR sound and even more importantly, your dynamic!  We HATE overcompressed, over effected, everything up front, recordings.  Your band has a groove, a feel, a balance that should show in your recordings.  We treat your recordings just the way you expect a studio recording to sound.  We're not live sound engineers, that's a different world completely, but studio recording engineers and you will hear the difference in the final result.

We look forward to every session as much as we look forward to completing projects.  We know our equipment, our studio, or mics.  We know how to get a solid natural sound.  We know how to get your project done without costing you a fortune.  It's the people behind the glass that make the difference.  People who know their gear and how it works.  People who care about your music and how it sounds.  Check it out.  Give us a call or email us.  You won't be sorry!
